Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 10 Mar. (Europa Press) –

The representative for the parliamentary group Gomera Socialist Group (ASG), Casimiro Curbelo, stated on Monday that the amendment of article 35 of the Bigger Law, which will enable “a compulsory referral,” has been resumed by the central government, thus he described it as “good news.”

In remarks made to the press, Curbelo provided an initial assessment following a meeting in Madrid between the president of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, and the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, to discuss the funding of the immediate distribution of unaccompanied migrant minors.

“I even believed that the PSOE-junts agreement regarding immigration would signify, and I believe it will signify, a respite, as the agreement is now transferring ‘up to now’ concerning unaccompanied minors arriving in the Canary Islands.”

He also conveyed to the media that “the satisfactory response of 100%” would materialise “when the law is amended,” once the Congress of Deputies “grants the necessary parliamentary majority.”

Reflecting on the meeting that took place on Monday in Madrid between Montero and Clavijo, he welcomed the outcomes, as they represent “another step” in this “Calvary” that the Canary Islands “has faced” for communities “to recognise that this is a reality not only of the islands but also of the Government of Spain and the European Union.”
