Beloved chickpeas, exclusive breakfast events and accolades to honour the arrival of the Repsol Guide Suns in Tenerife. This esteemed publication in the culinary industry is spotlighting Teatro Guimerá in Santa Cruz.
The festivities commence on Saturday, the 15th, with a community-oriented event featuring a complimentary serving of traditional chickpeas at the Our Lady of Africa market. On the same day, residents in La Laguna and Puerto de la Cruz will have the opportunity to partake in various games with guaranteed prizes through the Repsol Guide app.
On the morning of Sunday, the 16th, renowned chefs Paco Roncero (3 soles), Begoña Rodrigo (3 soles), Javier Sanz and Juan Sahuquillo (2 soles) will present exclusive breakfasts at three cafés in the capital of Tenerife. Finally, on Monday, Tenerife will experience a remarkable evening, with gastronomy taking centre stage. Over 200 chefs will gather for the Repsol 2025 Guide Gala, during which the restaurants earning 1, 2, and 3 soles will be unveiled.
Overview
The Vice President and Counsellor of Tourism for the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, states, “This month, Tenerife will be the centre of national gastronomy, showcasing one of its most prestigious events: the Gala de los Soles 2025 of the Repsol Guide.” He adds, “We are fortunate to be making significant strides to ensure Tenerife remains a benchmark, engaging substantial parts of our society and economy. From local produce to kitchen innovations, Tenerife is asserting itself on both the national and international culinary stages.”
The CEO of Tourism for Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, appreciates “the outstanding quality and professional expertise of the island’s culinary sector, which, combined with the richness and diversity of our cuisine, reflects the commitment of those striving daily to deliver exceptional culinary experiences.” He extends his heartfelt gratitude “to everyone involved in the lead-up to the Gala of the Repsol Guide, recognising their dedication and passion as vital to positioning Tenerife as a premier gastronomic destination.” A special thanks is also due to the municipalities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Cristóbal de la Laguna, and Puerto de la Cruz for their backing of this initiative. “This represents an excellent opportunity for Tenerife and its tourism promotion, showcasing our gastronomy, talent, and the immense potential of our island,” Melwani concludes.
Chickpea Festivities
On Saturday, March 15, a large-scale Canarian chickpea dish will be prepared in Santa Cruz. From midday until 2:00 PM, there will be a thousand complimentary servings of this traditional canary stew crafted by the La Chachi Cocina Bar restaurant (Repsol Guide Solete).
Additionally, that day on the Paseo de San Telmo in Puerto de la Cruz, participants in the Lucky Roulette — who are also users of the Repsol Guide app — can win guaranteed prizes. Gifts will be distributed from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In the Plaza del Cristo in La Laguna, users of the app can also participate in a Frisbee throwing activity with prizes available. The participation window for this will be from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and again from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Breakfast Events
Sunday is designated for a royal breakfast experience. Or rather, a breakfast fit for a chef with guide soles. Chefs Paco Roncero (‘Paco Roncero Restaurant’, 3 soles, Madrid), Begoña Rodrigo (La Salita, 3 soles, Valencia), and Javier Sanz and Juan Sahuquillo (Oba, 2 soles, and Cañitas Maite, 1 sun in Casas Ibáñez) have curated exclusive breakfasts available for sampling from 10:30 AM at three cafés in downtown Santa Cruz.
Emphasising the slogan “Tenerife has more than one sun,” this flagship event for the sector will transform Tenerife into Spain’s culinary capital. The gala will also encourage active participation from the public, allowing everyone to take part in the celebrations of the grand Repsol Guide party.
The National Beacon of the Industry
Since its establishment in 1979, the Repsol Guide has emerged as the leading authority in promoting tourism and gastronomy in Spain. Each year, millions rely on it for inspiration and guidance. In recent years, it has undergone a transformation to meet new trends in both tourism and gastronomy. The Repsol Guide’s soles rating system incorporates criteria such as sustainability, local sourcing, integration, circular economy, and coherence in projects that must be evident across kitchens, venues, staging, and wine selections. The Repsol Guide is devoted to enhancing the richness of Spanish cuisine. For the 2025 edition, a team of approximately 60 inspectors, well-versed in the culinary offerings of each region of Spain, has contributed to the guide.
