Santa Cruz de Tenerife 7 Mar. (Europa Press) –
Tenerife Bluetrail By UTMB, the event orchestrated by the Cabildo via the IDECO public entity, has experienced a steady rise in female participation in recent years. Of the 3,200 competitors enrolled for the upcoming edition, 23% are women, equating to 300 more runners compared to two years ago.
The Insular Sports Councillor, Yolanda Moliné, underscored in a statement the “steady” increase in female involvement in this mountainous event. “Although there remains considerable progress to achieve gender parity, we must acknowledge the dedication of numerous prominent trail runners who act as role models for the new generation of athletes aspiring to pursue this discipline professionally,” she remarked.
In alignment with the observance of International Women’s Day, Yolanda Moliné communicated the council’s commitment “to enhancing the visibility and advocacy of women’s sport” across all its forms and aspects, through initiatives such as ‘Women and Sports’, aimed at promoting access, participation, and representation of women in the sporting arena of Tenerife.
The 23% of female athletes participating in the Tenerife Bluetrail By UTMB in three weeks escalates to 33% in the 24K category, which is the most appealing to competitors.
Regarding the primary nationalities of the participating athletes, Spanish, French, Italian, and British are prominent in that order, although American, Polish, Portuguese, and Ukrainian athletes will also compete, among others.
Participants in the Tenerife Bluetrail By UTMB will have access to separate restrooms and changing areas, equipped with a selection of essential female hygiene products.
All races within the UTMB World Series circuit, including the Tenerife event, have a specific policy for pregnant athletes, including those with partners who are pregnant or who are adopting.
In such instances, the organisation ensures the reimbursement of all expenses and a valid priority registration for two years, as outlined by the Cabildo.
