The interment of the Sardina de Santa Cruz de Tenerife continued until 03:00 on Thursday in the Prince’s Square, following a funeral procession led by widows and carnival priests as they made their way through the streets of the island’s capital.
Don Carnal was given a stylish farewell on Ash Wednesday, receiving honours and recognition from the Chicharrero community who gathered to mourn once more, as detailed by the City Council in a statement on Thursday.
Plañideras, widows, and carnival priests spearheaded the funeral procession in a light-hearted and relaxed atmosphere, punctuated by the anguished cries of attendees lamenting their imminent departure.

The sardine traversed the streets of the capital of Tenerife, accompanied by thousands of mourners who came out to bid an emotional farewell to the winter festivities.
The mourning, sometimes not entirely strict, blended with the most amusing costumes during this final act before the grand Piñata weekend.

The procession commenced at 9:00 p.m., led by the Nifú Nifá. During the journey, one of the floats featured performances by singers Pepe Benavente, El Morocho, and Jhonny Machinery.
Following the obsequy, and with the intention of forgetting their sorrows while paying a final tribute to Don Carnal, the Prince’s Square awaited the mascaritas, who danced until 03:00 on Thursday to the sounds of the New Line Orchestra and The Boys Machine.
