The Cabildo de Tenerife has announced that the TF-24 (La Esperanza) and TF-21 (La Orotava) roads are now open to traffic following the completion of the ice removal operations. As a result, all access routes to Teide National Park—the southern TF-38 has also been reopened since yesterday (Tuesday 4)—, but caution is advised when travelling along these roads.
Today (Wednesday 5), the Cabildo ended the Insular Emergency Plan of Tenerife (PEIN) after the pre-alert status for rain and snowfall, which was implemented by the Canary Islands Government, was lifted. However, the local authority continues to prohibit travel on the paths within Teide National Park that lead to the peak, as well as on forest tracks affected by the 2023 fire, in order to ensure public safety.
Safety Measures in Teide National Park
The Cabildo retains the ban on accessing the following paths or sections thereof:
- Path No. 7: Blanca-Pico Teide Mountain, from the Cima de Montaña Blanca to the junction of paths No. 7 and No. 11 at the viewpoint of the fortress.
- Path No. 9: Teide – Pico Viejo – Road TF -38, from the junction of this path with path No. 38 (black caves) to its junction with path No. 12 (Mirador de Pico Viejo).
- Path No. 10: Bravo Telesforo. [entirely]
- Path No. 11: Mirador de la Fortaleza. [entirely]
- Path No. 12: Mirador de Pico Viejo. [entirely]
- Path No. 23: black regatones. [entirely]
- Path No. 28: Chafarí. [entirely]
These restrictions apply to the general public. Federated mountaineers and certified official tour guides may access the trails provided they possess the required winter equipment (technical clothing, crampons and piolet) and have submitted a responsible declaration along with the necessary authorisation via the Tenerife On website and application (https://www.theifeon.es).
Access Restrictions to Forest Areas
Furthermore, movement and entry into forest areas and trails remain forbidden due to the aftermath of the 2023 Arafo forest fire, as there continues to be a risk of landslides along the following routes:
- Torn track crossed, VM 2.1, from the TF-24 road at the PK to the GR-131.
- Seven-font track, VM 2, in the section that remains open.
- The road to Candelaria (from Aguamansa to La Crucita) between the GR-131 and the TF-24.
- The PK 29, VM-17 track, from the TF-21 road to the stone of the shepherds.
