Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 5 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The Tenerife Tourism Delegation has confirmed at the ITB in Berlin the promising outlook for the German market, showcasing a 12 percent increase in air capacity this year compared to 2024, surpassing the one million mark.
Lope Afonso, the vice president and tourism councillor of the Cabildo de Tenerife, noted in a statement that the second day at the ITB in Berlin highlighted how the German market is “responding positively” to Tenerife’s offerings.
“We have specifically observed how airlines are already projecting a very strong capacity for the year 2025 regarding the island, alongside significant events scheduled for the year, facilitated by the main operators in the German tourism sector and supported by institutions through the collaboration of Turespaña,” he stated.
He added that it had been a “productive day” that made the assessment of the fair “positive” concerning Tenerife’s prospects for the German market.
Additionally, Dimple Melwani, the CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, reflected positively on the ITB, emphasising that the island’s strategy aligns with the actions of various companies in the sector, “which aim to attract active and responsible visitors contributing significantly to the local economy.”
She believes that “connectivity with the German market is solidifying for the upcoming summer and winter seasons, as the leading airlines are being transferred.”
Regarding the expected aircraft arrivals, the German market is anticipated to experience a 9% increase in air capacity for winter 24/25, equating to approximately 582,000 seats, with an even greater growth of around 12% when taking charter capacity into consideration.
New connections from Germany this winter include those operated by Norwegian from Cologne, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart.
Additionally, there is a route from Hannover operated by Korendon, along with a Hamburg route managed by European Air Charter.
Nearly 450,000 Seats for the Summer Campaign
For the summer of 2025, the initial forecast for regular arrivals to Tenerife indicates an improvement of approximately 12%, with four new connections compared to the previous summer, including the Stuttgart route operated by Condor from Nuremberg and Leipzig, as well as the new route from Hannover via Korendon.
The total seat count is projected to reach 446,718 for the summer season.
Overall, Tenerife has maintained connectivity throughout 2024 with 18 German airports consistently, along with occasional operations from Paderborn, which increases the total connected airports to 19.
Arrivals from Germany between January and December are expected to rise by 10.1% compared to 2023, totalling 863,029 passengers.
The German market ranks as the second most significant international market for the island, trailing only the British market, and is the third overall from which Tenerife welcomes travellers, surpassed only by British and Spanish visitors.
In 2024, the number of German tourists accommodated in Tenerife’s tourism establishments reached 447,017, indicating a 3.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
