Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 4 March. (Europa Press) –

The Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has announced this Tuesday morning the cancellation of the apotheosis, which was set for 4 pm today, as a mark of respect and sorrow towards the family of the young man who passed away this morning.

As stated by the Council in a notice, adverse weather conditions also played a role in this decision, in order to prevent wear or potential damage to the floats participating in the COSO. The kiosks and the fair will likewise remain closed.

During a meeting held on Tuesday morning among the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez; the Councillor for Fiestas, Javier Caraballero, and various members of the Municipal Corporation, this precautionary measure was taken “with the principal aim of not overshadowing the efforts that the Carnival groups and other participants have put in for so many months, along with expressing solidarity with the family and relatives of the young man who tragically passed away early this morning.”

The Carnival will resume its usual activities this Wednesday, 5 March, with the traditional burial of the sardine, set to commence at 10 pm, starting from Juan Pablo II street.
