Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s municipality has announced the cancellation of the carnival’s grand finale scheduled for this Tuesday, along with all activities planned for the afternoon, in a gesture of respect for the tragic passing of a young man overnight.
The decision made by Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s City Council acknowledges that adverse weather conditions have played a role, aiming to prevent the potential wear or damage to the carnival floats participating in the COSO. Additionally, a weather alert for rain is in effect, necessitating the closure of the kiosks and fair attractions.
The municipal authorities have formally announced the suspension of the apotheosis Coso that was set for 4:00 PM on Tuesday, as a mark of respect and sympathy towards the bereaved family of the young man who lost his life.
Following a meeting involving the city’s mayor, Jose Manuel Bermúdez, the councillor for Fiestas, Javier Caraballero, and other members of the Municipal Corporation, the council has opted for this precautionary measure to uphold the efforts invested by the Carnival groups and other participants over many months, while also expressing solidarity with the family and loved ones of the deceased young man.
The Carnival is expected to continue on its regular schedule on Wednesday, with the traditional burial of the sardine taking place at 10:00 PM, commencing from Juan Pablo II street.
