The comparsas of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will celebrate their second session this Saturday, the 1st, revealing the awards in the rhythm and harmony category, named after Manuel Monzón. On the pavement of Francisco La Roche Avenue (commonly known as Anaga Avenue), commencing at 9:00 p.m., the ten competing groups will present one of the most eagerly awaited spectacles of the Fiestas, with live coverage provided by RTVE and RTVC to ensure reach at regional, national, and international levels.
Following the children’s opening acts, Tropicana and Joroperos, the participating troupes for this edition, appearing in order on Anaga Avenue, include Canaries Canaries, Orinoco River, Rumberos, Bahitiare Bay, Tropicana, Tabajas, Cariocas, Abenaura, Valleiros, and Joroperos. Concluding the participants, the Cumbacheros comparsa will also parade. Additionally, the Queen of Carnival 2025, Elizabeth Ledesma, will make an appearance with her fantasy Connection, accompanied by her bridesmaids as well as the remaining queen candidates for this edition.
The jury for this category comprises José Cuéllar, an instructor of Cuban dances and director of the Santa Úrsula dance school, alongside dancers and choreographers Patricia Dávila Ventura and Aida Bugarin Pereira; percussionists Roberto Clement, Carlos Suárez, and Juan Luis Pérez are also part of the panel.
The awards will be announced once the competition concludes, around midnight, from the stage located at Plaza de la Candelaria. In addition to three main awards and second prizes, recognition will also be given for the best banner or flag.
Street Performances during the Carnival
On Friday, the 28th, music will take centre stage at the Plaza de la Candelaria from midnight, featuring the Tasty Orchestra; at 02:15, the Guayaba Orchestra will perform, followed by the Selector at 04:15. Meanwhile, on the stage of Francisco La Roche Avenue, the Reggae Festival Carnival will occur from 23:30 to 03:00, with DJ Ubay taking over from 03:00 to 05:00. Furthermore, in the Prince’s Square from midnight, KDTS Orchestra will perform, then the Gomeray Orchestra at 02:15, before concluding with DJ Pablo Barrios at 04:15.
Tomorrow, Saturday, the 1st of March, from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Plaza de la Candelaria, the adult murgas awarded in this edition of Carnival will take the stage. From 23:30 onwards, it will be Band Machinery’s turn; the Maracaibo Orchestra will follow at 01:45, and the Dinacord Orchestra will close the evening starting at 04:00.
In Plaza del Príncipe, Las Rondallas will take centre stage from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., preceded by a Rondallas parade at 6:30 p.m. The Key Group will perform at 11:30 p.m., and from 01:45 hours, Iván Cacú and his orchestra will entertain, with the Morocho Latin Brothers closing out the festivities at 04:00.
The Francisco La Roche stage will host musical ensembles from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Following this, from 9:00 p.m. until midnight, the rhythm and harmony contest will unfold, paving the way for the DJ until 06:00 hours.
The children’s stage, located at Plaza del Parque Boulevar, will showcase children’s murgas from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This performance will occur on the 1st and 3rd of March.
Domingo Carnival by Day
On Sunday, the 2nd of March, Carnival will once again take the spotlight, where the city will be populated with families dressed up in vibrant costumes, celebrating the joyful spirit of the occasion.
The festivities will commence early, setting the pace for a vibrant carnival atmosphere. From midday, Plaza de la Candelaria will showcase the entertainment of Neo Pinto, performing from 12:00 to 13:00. Following on, Mekanica by Tamarindos will take the stage from 13:00 to 15:00. Moise González will continue the festivities until 16:30. At 16:30, the Guaracha orchestra will entertain, followed by Orchestra Wamampy making its appearance at 20:00. The night will conclude with the La Talay Orchestra from 20:00 to 22:00.
In the Plaza del Príncipe, the Nifú Nifá will kick off the performances at 11:00. They will be succeeded by the Fregolinos at 12:00, followed by Latin Sound at 13:30. The Soundmachine macaque will take the stage at 15:30, after which Luis Deseda will perform from 17:00 to 18:30. At 18:30, the Maraury orchestra will entertain the crowd, with the Tejina Orchestra closing the evening at 20:00.
Francisco La Roche’s stage will feature a line-up of artists as scheduled by the SER chain, from 14:00 to 20:00. At 20:00, DJ Daswani will take over, followed by DJ Adam Lorr until 23:00.
