Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife has restricted access to the Teide National Park via Hope (TF-24) and La Orotava (TF-21) due to the presence of ice patches on the roads.
Additionally, the TF-38 (Chío) routes have been closed since this afternoon, starting from kilometre 13, and the TF-21 has been closed from kilometre 59 (Las Lajas recreational area, Vilaflor).
In an announcement, the Insular Corporation detailed that the TF-24 is off-limits between PK 24 (the parrots) and PK 43 (the portillo). Likewise, the TF-445 route, from Buenavista to the Faro de Teno, is also closed as a precautionary measure.
The Cabildo has initiated the Insular Emergency Plan of Tenerife (PEIN) as of midnight this Sunday due to the adverse weather conditions affecting LSLA.
To ensure public safety, from 4 pm on Saturday, the forest trails have been closed, and access to the peak of Teide National Park is prohibited.
The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, has urged the public to refrain from unnecessary travel, particularly to the island’s elevated regions, and to avoid outdoor activities.
Lastly, the Minister of Natural Resources, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, reminded that “the activation of the PIN involves diligent monitoring of the meteorological event, as well as ensuring that island means and resources are on standby should intervention be necessary.”
