Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2 Mar. (Europa Press) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has prohibited access to Teide National Park from Hope (TF-24) and La Orotava (TF-21) due to the presence of ice sheets on the roadway.

In a statement, the Insular Corporation clarified that specifically, TF-24 is closed between PK 24 (the parrots) and PK 43 (El Portillo), while TF-21 is closed from PK 16 to 43 (base of the cable car). Furthermore, depending on rainfall, access to Teide could also be restricted via TF-38 (Chío).

Likewise, the TF-445 route, from Buenavista to Faro de Teno, is similarly closed as a precautionary measure.

In response to the adverse weather conditions affecting LSLA, the Cabildo activated the Insular Emergency Plan of Tenerife (PEIN) starting at midnight on Sunday.

To ensure public safety, from 4 pm on Saturday, the forest trails were closed and traffic is prohibited on the paths of Teide National Park that provide access to the summit.

The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, has reiterated her appeal to the population to avoid unnecessary travel, especially to the higher regions of the island, as well as engaging in outdoor activities.

Lastly, the Minister of Natural Resources, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, noted that “the activation of the PIN involves thorough monitoring of the meteorological phenomenon, as well as ensuring that the island’s means and resources are ready should their intervention be necessary.”
