Santa Cruz de Tenerife 28 Feb. (Europa Press) –
The leader of the Socialist Group at the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, has this Friday accused the president, Rosa Dávila, of attempting to “associate” CD Tenerife with herself and her political party (CC) while failing to uphold the “commitment” that the stadium would be refurbished by 2025, coinciding with the centenary of the Heliodoro Rodríguez López.
Martín pointed out that Dávila did not wish to respond to a question during the Plenary session of the Cabildo, mirroring her behaviour in significant discussions of the assembly – “she remains silent, says nothing, and does not engage in thought.”
He expressed that his group has “concerns” regarding the institutional status of the entity and inquired, unsuccessfully, if the council would ensure its financial support even if the club faces relegation, or whether the governing body would endorse the accountability actions taken against the former president, Paulino Rivero.
He emphasised that the team “belongs to all of Tenerife” and acknowledged the composed approach of the vice president, Lope Afonso (PP), who has maintained a “more reserved” stance compared to the president, who has been known to “call and pressure” for involvement in sports radio discussions.
He even remarked that he had publicly endorsed Rayco García as president but “ceased to comment” following the release of some recordings containing alleged threats towards his former partner, prompting him to alter his strategy and solely advocate for the “necessity of dialogue.”
The Minister of Roads, Dámaso Arteaga, who responded on behalf of the president, stated that the council stands as an “ally” of the club and that the process of establishing the new Council has been “upheld,” which he views as a “first positive assessment” because “they are committed to supporting the club.”
He refuted claims that Dávila had been involved in the presidential election process and expressed his confidence that “the players will give their all” in the effort to avert relegation.
