Valverde (El Hierro), 22 (Europa Press)
A 65-year-old German trekker exhibiting signs of mild hypothermia was rescued on Saturday morning by helicopter after arriving the previous afternoon in a rugged area of the path connecting Isora and the beaches in Valverde (El Hierro) which blocked her from proceeding, as reported by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2.
At around 6:17 p.m. on Friday, the Operating Chamber of Cecos 112 received notification regarding this incident. The woman, according to 112 reports to Europa Press, veered off the path and reached a point where she was unable to continue on her own. Consequently, the appropriate intervention team from the Cabildo de El Hierro arrived in the area and confirmed that land access was challenging.
Due to low visibility, the rescue attempt via the GES helicopter was postponed until the early hours of the following morning. Once the team arrived at the site, they successfully rescued the hiker and transported her to the base of the aircraft in El Hierro, from where she was taken by ambulance to the Border Health Centre.
