The Candelaria Town Council has imposed a temporary ban on swimming at two of the municipality’s beaches following the discovery of elevated intestinal enterococci levels that exceed permissible limits outlined in current regulations.
In an official statement, the Council details that subsequent to the results from water sampling analyses conducted at Guanches and Olegario beaches, and in line with the directives of the Health Surveillance Programme, a deviation from the values specified in Royal Decree 1341/2007, dated 11 October, concerning bathing water quality management, has been identified. Therefore, a temporary closure has been enforced; however, the local authority has clarified that access to both beaches for sunbathing and enjoying the surroundings will remain available.
Furthermore, the Candelaria Town Council encourages residents and visitors to diligently heed the notice and signalling being established on the beaches.
These precautionary measures will be upheld until further water tests ascertain that the levels comply with the permitted limits and the prohibition can be rescinded, while periodic water testing will continue.
