Santa Cruz de Tenerife 21 Feb. (Europa Press) –
The Candelaria Town Council announced today that following the findings of the water sampling analysis conducted at the Guanches and Olegario beaches, as part of the Municipality’s Sanitary Water Surveillance Programme, there has been a violation of the standards set forth in Royal Decree 1341/2007 regarding the management of bathing water quality.
As a result, and in accordance with programme guidelines, a period of short-term contamination has been declared for the bathing areas, as stated in a notice from the Council.
Consequently, a temporary prohibition on bathing at the beaches of the Guanches and Olegario has been enacted with immediate effect.
The Town Council clarifies that while swimming is forbidden, the public can still access both beaches for sunbathing and to enjoy the surroundings. They acknowledge the “inconvenience” this measure may cause but emphasise that “the priority is to ensure the health and safety of all users.”
Therefore, they urge all residents and visitors to pay close attention and diligently adhere to the beacon indications and signage being installed on the beaches.
These measures will remain in place until new water tests confirm that the quality values are within acceptable limits, at which point the prohibition will be lifted.
The Candelaria Town Council will continue to conduct periodic water analyses and will keep the public informed of any developments through their official communication channels. They appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding in this matter.
