Santa Cruz de Tenerife 21 Feb. (Europa Press) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife held the signing of the Strategic Relationship Framework Agreement on Friday between the Technalia Research & Innovation Foundation (Tecnalia) and Electric Canaria of Renewable Energy and Mobility (EAVE), positioning Tenerife as a hub for energy innovation and the circular economy, while encouraging research and innovation in energy transition and sustainability.
This document lays down the foundation for cooperation aimed at fostering sustainability and decarbonisation, with a significant emphasis on technological innovation.
The event was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila; the Minister of Innovation, Research and Development, Juan José Martínez; the Director of Strategy, Market and Technology, Agustín Sáez; the CEO of Eave, Luis Linares; and the Manager of the Scientific and Technological Park of Tenerife, Olga Martín.
Dávila mentioned in a statement that this partnership between Tecnalia and Eave “will yield benefits in the insular economy by attracting projects related to sustainability, innovation, the promotion of the circular economy, and the development of local talent in cutting-edge technologies.”
Meanwhile, Juan José Martínez emphasised the role of the Scientific and Technological Park, an entity of the Cabildo, “as a pivotal innovation node hosting pioneering companies like Eave, facilitating robust collaborations, in this instance with Tecnalia, to accelerate the technological transformation of Tenerife.”
The agreement between Technalia and Eave aims to implement innovative projects in Tenerife centred on the reuse of lithium batteries (Battery Second Life), encompassing robotics for disassembly and assessment of battery conditions, in addition to intelligent energy management that optimises generation and storage.
It also comprises ‘Data Science’ initiatives applied to the energy transition, advancement of photovoltaic technology in the Canary Islands, and innovations in water treatment and reuse.
EAVE is a firm specialising in the design and execution of photovoltaic systems and the recycling of lithium batteries, originating from a business-focused ethos and currently employing more than 200 individuals.
It is also a Tesla Premium distributor, currently in an expansion phase and established in a location within the Tenerife Scientific and Technological Park (PCTT), situated at the Technological Institute of Renewable Energies (Iter).
Tecnalia is the largest applied research centre and technological developer in Spain, a benchmark within Europe, and a member of the ‘Basque Research and Technology Alliance.’
Its aim is to partner with companies and institutions to enhance their competitiveness, improve individuals’ quality of life, and achieve sustainable development.
