A large tree has collapsed onto two vehicles parked on Ermita Path in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, according to reports from the Local Police on its X profile.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon, causing considerable damage to both vehicles and obstructing the roadway, which necessitated a temporary closure of traffic.
Firefighters from Tenerife were dispatched to the scene, where they were responsible for removing the vehicles and trimming the fallen tree.
The city’s cleaning services were tasked with clearing the roadway and securing the area.
Incidents of falling branches and entire trees in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
In November 2024, a substantial tree situated in the heart of Santa Cruz de Tenerife collapsed overnight on July 21 Avenue, leading to a temporary closure of the road and a health inspection of neighbouring trees.
These are significant trees, planted decades ago, providing shade and refreshing the lovely area of Tenerife’s capital.

In light of these incidents, the care of trees in Santa Cruz, an iconic aspect of the city, has been scrutinised for some time, as instances of falling branches and entire trees continue to accumulate.
In August 2024, another large tree collapsed once more at night on Rambla in the city centre. It fell onto the road but fortunately did not cause any injuries, although it did inflict damage to the exterior wall of the Canary Islands Government’s Health Ministry.
