The municipality that hosts the most significant April Fair is fully prepared for another edition of an event that appeals greatly to lovers of Sevillanas, particularly in Tenerife. The locality in question is La Laguna, and the island’s adaptation of the April Fair of Seville has now been scheduled to occur between Friday 4 and Sunday 6 April at the Parque de la Butter.

This will mark the third edition of the April Fair of La Laguna, which has become a staple in the cultural and leisure calendar of both the municipality and the island, having attracted over 6,000 attendees in 2024.

The La Laguna City Council has enhanced activities compared to previous editions. According to the Facebook page dedicated to this celebration, there will be renowned flamenco artists, family-friendly activities, workshops led by local instructors from schools and flamenco groups, impressive performances, a Sevillanas competition, mouth-watering food that “satisfies” The Sentío, and some surprises that “are yet to be revealed.”

The celebration, organised by the Cultural Association of April in Tenerife, in collaboration with the Culture department and the City Council of La Laguna, along with other local companies, groups, and flamenco clubs, will provide stalls and stages across an area of around 2,000 square metres.

The event will feature Canarian groups and associations that maintain a unique connection with Andalusia, both from within the municipality and across the broader Canary Islands, including groups from Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.

Admission to the venue will be completely free, with the following schedule: Friday 4 from 6:00 p.m. to midnight; Saturday 5 from 12:00 p.m. to midnight; and Sunday, with reduced hours, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. For those unable to travel to the Parque de la Butter but eager to engage with the event, a streaming service will be available to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and colour of the fair.

This year’s edition will feature workshops and contests for castanets and Sevillanas, as well as equestrian displays that showcase the harmony between horse and rider with a flamenco dancer (Chico de la Cruz and Estefanía Luche), alongside a delightful selection of traditional Andalusian cuisine. Special activities for children will also be incorporated into the programme, ensuring they play a significant role once again.

“The fly skirt is shaking, bringing brilliance to the castanets and perfectly adjusting the comb because this year we will go all out,” states the Facebook page promoting the event, adding: “More joy, more Sevillian, more Rebujito.

The organisers express: “We welcome all individuals, associations, schools, groups, and clubs to join this grand Canarian-Andalusian celebration. Last year we set a new attendance record, and this year we aim to surpass it alongside all of you!”

The April Fair, or Feria de Sevilla, is a spring festival celebrated annually in Seville, where the public gathers in a large area termed the Real de la Feria, filled with streets adorned with lanterns and temporary booths, traversed by equestrians and horse-drawn carriages during the day, drawing around 500,000 visitors every day. In Tenerife, La Laguna stands out as the municipality that orchestrates the largest island version of the Sevillian April Fair.
