Carnival Vibrance: Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s Call to Celebrate

The College of Property Administrators of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has initiated its awareness campaign for the third consecutive year, aiming to promote the enjoyment of the carnival in the streets through a series of posters that encourage celebrating the festivities with “moderation and respect” towards individuals and property.

Through this initiative, the property administrators are seeking to inspire a “reflection” on the consequences of the revelries during the carnival in the urban areas.

The organisation emphasises in a statement that while it “shares the celebration”, it also acknowledges the concerns of the local residents who bear the inconveniences that arise from the thousands of people who gather in the city during this time.

This year features a significant scene from The Lion King, where the Babuino Rafiki raises the Sardina Carnavalera, along with the slogan ‘We are tribe’, linking it to this year’s theme (Africa) as it relates to the sector, the buildings, and the homeowners’ associations.

More broadly, it connects to everything that embodies their values of respect and the preservation of the ‘tribe’, represented by the community.

“As the African proverb states, to educate, it takes the whole tribe. We require the cooperation of all citizens and visitors to ensure that the carnival is a safe environment, fostering respect for everyone, as well as public and private properties,” the school commented.

As in previous years, the campaign delivers a very specific message: to utilise public restrooms and refrain from urinating on the streets and building access points; to avoid damaging doors and gardens of properties; to respect everyone’s possessions, with particular emphasis on buildings and communities where vandalism must not be tolerated.

Furthermore, they are appealing to all citizens to, for instance, “prevent the prolongation of parties in apartments until dawn or engaging in morning disorderly conduct.”

According to the president of CAF Tenerife, Luis García González, “The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife embodies our culture, our identity, and the bonds that connect us as a community. We cannot permit its magic to fade; hence, we convey this message of joy and respect for our tradition, ensuring that the carnival remains a benchmark among major celebrations throughout the nation.”
