Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 20 Feb. (Europa Press) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, via the Island Company of Crafts, has unveiled the second edition of the Audiovisual ‘indispensable project of the MAIT’ aimed at highlighting the collection housed at the Ibero-American Craft Museum of Tenerife, situated in the municipality of La Orotava.
The Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina; the mayor of La Orotava, Francisco Linares, and the manager of the Island Craft Company, Ricardo Cologan, introduced 12 videos that comprise this second showcase, which will be shared through social media and various craft centres on both national and international fronts.
The councillor stated that “the aim is to enhance public awareness of the exceptional artistic value of the items preserved by the museum.”
In his view, “the MAIT is a distinctive museum, featuring extraordinary pieces that deserve recognition and appreciation globally.”
In this context, he mentioned that approximately 11,000 individuals visited the MAIT last year and underscored “the commitment to education, with a training programme that has enabled around 7,000 students to experience the museum.”
Medina emphasised the goal of expanding its outreach, which is why 14 travelling exhibitions of the MAIT are scheduled for all municipalities across the island. “
He added that these exhibitions are planned through to 2027 “to ensure that every part of Tenerife can experience the MAIT displays.”
He expressed gratitude for the effort put forth by the team at the Ibero-American Handicraft Museum in Tenerife.
Francisco Linares remarked that “the MAIT holds significant importance for La Orotava, being one of the five museums located in the municipality,” and he recalled that its establishment took place in 2007—with the involvement of Efraín Medina.
“A museum that is closed off is a lifeless museum, and the MAIT possesses a vital connection with the community of La Orotava and the entire island of Tenerife, which is why it remains vibrant,” he stated.
Linares also noted that “the collaboration between the Town Council of La Orotava and the Cabildo is crucial for bringing such activities to the public” and encouraged everyone to visit the MAIT, housed in the former convent of Santo Domingo dating back to the seventeenth century.
“It is not just a remarkable architectural space, but its exhibits are also truly unique and spectacular,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Ricardo Cologan explained that the ‘indispensable project of the MAIT’ consists of “12 one-minute videos showcasing some of the most notable features of the highest quality pieces within the museum.”
The pieces selected for this occasion can be found in the MAIT galleries and also include those that are stored and preserved in their repositories. The release of the videos has been organised according to a calendar, assigning one of the selected pieces to each month.
