Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 20th February. (Europa Press) –

The President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, visited the headquarters of the ‘Little Valiente’ association in Tenerife this Wednesday to express her support for the organisation’s efforts in assisting children suffering from cancer across the islands. Their work focuses on emotional and psychological well-being, which is deemed “essential” to ensure that both the children and their families do not feel isolated.

She acknowledged the association’s efforts to enable families to be together while their children receive treatment in leading hospitals, and underscored the entity’s commitment to assisting children from the outer Canary Islands, as stated in a communiqué from the Canary Islands Parliament.

The Chamber’s President had the opportunity to hear directly from Juanma and his family, who benefited from the Foundation’s support when he was diagnosed with cancer. “Little Valiente was vital in enhancing the illness management, not just concerning physical health but also regarding psychological and emotional well-being,” the young boy stated.

Astrid Pérez was welcomed by the Foundation’s President, José Juan Pérez Castro, along with pedagogue Sonia Gutiérrez Jorge and psychologist Yurena Macario Pérez, who detailed the support services they offer across their various locations.

The Little Valiente Foundation was established in 2006 following an initiative by a group of families aiming to enhance the hospital experience for their children during cancer treatments. In the previous year, they assisted over 100 families from the Canary Islands through their diverse services.

This visit is part of a series of actions undertaken by the Canary Islands Parliament throughout this month to raise awareness and educate the public about prevention efforts and support in the battle against cancer.
