Puerto de la Cruz: Councilor Resigns, Prompting Government Restructuring

It has been officially affirmed. While it was intended to take place on Friday, as indicated to this publication on Thursday, the councillor from C n is navigating a challenging situation with his company located in the municipality.

Moreno, however, confirmed around noon to Canary Islands now that he had opted to proceed with this decision, which was shared in the afternoon via social media by the local secretary of the nationalists in the tourist city, Diana Mora. She also emphasised the business and personal factors behind his resignation.

His departure necessitates a reorganisation of the areas and councillors currently within the ruling team, corresponding to the profile of the new mayor who will succeed him, Elsie Tavío, according to various sources consulted. Until this point, Moreno has overseen trade, industry, crafts, and the primary sector.

His brief resignation will be addressed in the plenary session scheduled for this Monday, and it will mark the introduction of the new mayor and the reorganisation of councils, as decided by the three governing allies against the PSOE; the PP, ACP, and CC.

Although Mora insists that no further interpretations should be made regarding this move, it is evident that, while nothing significant appears to be changing during this term, discussions regarding the future of CC, their candidates for 2027, their influence in the current administration, and potential alternative agreements could emerge.

Among other factors, it has been suggested for some time that Moreno was not entirely comfortable with the number of staff in his departments, and that the outcomes of his administration did not meet the desired pace and effectiveness he sought.

These sentiments are associated with how CC negotiated with the PP and ACP, as the overall impression is that, to support the motion to oust Marco González from the Mayor’s Office, they aimed to leverage the change in government to secure areas with more political significance, competencies, outreach, and visibility among the citizens.

In 2023, CC obtained two mandates, but Sandra Rodríguez, their candidate, stepped down due to a legal investigation from which she was cleared, leading to her return to the general direction of children, with Tavío becoming the leading candidate to enter Moreno’s position.
