Santa Cruz de Tenerife 19 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, has called for an extraordinary meeting of the Tenerife Sports Club (CDT) shareholders on Wednesday, following the news that its second largest shareholder, Rayco García, who is also vying for the presidency of the club, is under investigation for an alleged offence of coercion in relation to gender violence.

“Firstly, we are amidst a legal process, and we must respect the timings of justice along with any decisions that may arise,” Dávila stated when questioned about this issue during a press conference regarding the Governing Council’s agreements. She further added that the island corporation “condemns any form of gender violence.”

She also asserted that the Cabildo de Tenerife “will always stand by a centenary club like the CDT, as it is its representative,” emphasising that this “crisis” situation faced by the CDT, both institutionally and in sports, affects her just like any other supporter.

Responsibility for Tomorrow’s Board

“As an institution, the Cabildo de Tenerife, being the owner of the Heliodoro and the main sponsor, calls for responsibility from all shareholders at this moment, accountability for tomorrow’s board,” the island president added, characterising the situation surrounding the CDT as “critical” and “devilish”, stating that the focus is to “be supportive of the club, the fans, and unite efforts.”

Referring to Rayco García, Dávila clarified that there have been no personal endorsements, but that, “like every fan, we recognise that we are experiencing an institutional crisis that necessitates change.” Thus, “two months ago,” an “alternative” was considered in “this individual”, but now “we find ourselves in a situation that is once again critical, from an institutional perspective, and severely critical from a sporting standpoint.”
