La Laguna (Tenerife), 18 (Europa Press)
The Local Police of La Laguna apprehended two individuals on Monday afternoon for several offences related to road safety and the illegal possession of drugs during a control operation conducted in the Rocío neighbourhood.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. on José Escobedo Street when a ‘Skoda Fabia’ vehicle began honking insistently due to a minor traffic delay, unaware that it was caused by the police checkpoint.
After the officers signalled the vehicle to stop, the driver attempted to flee but was eventually apprehended, as reported by the City Council in a statement.
Neither of the vehicle’s occupants possessed identification, and the driver additionally lacked a driving licence, prompting the officers to initiate the appropriate legal actions.
During a breathalyser and drug assessment, the driver tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamine.
Noticing the occupants’ evident nervousness, the officers conducted a search, uncovering marijuana buds, 78 boxes of tobacco, 367.62 euros in coins, four drills, and dark clothing, including black gloves.
After documenting the items and taking necessary actions, the Local Police transferred the two men to the facilities of the National Police Corps for complete identification and further proceedings.
The two suspects are under investigation for potential criminal activities, which are currently in the inquiry phase, while the vehicle remains at the municipal impound in La Laguna.
