The Güímar City Council has initiated the process to tender the Acquisition of a location intended to accommodate the day centre for the elderly in El Puertito de Güímar. This aims to provide the municipality with an appropriate space for the general use of the senior residents, particularly those living in the coastal area.
The Councillor for the Elderly, Magüi Campos, announced that the General Directorate of Seniors and Active Participation of the Canary Islands Government has granted a subsidy of 149,000 euros to the Güimar Council, a sum that will be augmented with a financial contribution from the City of Güímar to implement this project.
During the celebration of the XV Anniversary of the Association of Greater Marine Blood, which took place on November 16, the regional president, Fernando Clavijo, previously announced the allocation of these funds, emphasising that this initiative “will facilitate the expansion of their headquarters, enabling them to accommodate all their members”. Clavijo also expressed his pleasure in witnessing “how our elders remain engaged,” according to the mayor.
In her comments, Verónica Meseguer, the general director of Elders and Citizen Participation, noted that the Blood Marina Association “is an exemplary model of seniors wanting to continue participating in the active life of our society.” She also mentioned that the Canary Islands government will persist in its efforts regarding active and healthy aging strategies to ensure improved conditions and opportunities for this demographic group.
Apart from its significant contributions to the welfare of its members, through various workshops and activities, the Association of Greater Marine Blood boasts a folklore group of the same name, which participates in numerous events both within and outside the municipality, strengthening cultural heritage and social integration among its members.
This tender reinforces “the City of Güímar’s commitment to the elderly within the municipality,” a dedication that has earned the town the Seal of Ciudad Amigable with the elderly,” Councillor Magüi Campos reminded.
