Santa Cruz de Tenerife 18 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The Public Company for Management and Territorial and Environmental Planning (GESPLAN), linked to the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion, and Water of the Canary Islands Government, unveiled the operational lines of its new ‘Strategic Framework Path 31’ on Tuesday, which is designed to outline the company’s priorities and objectives for the forthcoming years.

Specifically, this document aims to fortify a business model that focuses, among other factors, on innovation, internationalisation, and the sustainable development of the territory from now until 2031, coinciding with the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Mercantile Society.

As a result of this strategic shift, the company has introduced a new corporate image to renew and bolster its presence within Canarian society.

The presentation was led by the chair of the Board of Directors of the entity and advisor to Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion, and Water of the Regional Executive, Manuel Miranda, alongside the CEO of GESPLAN, Miguel Ángel Pérez.

The event also saw the attendance of several regional, insular, and local authorities, business representatives, members of the Board of Directors of the company, and a group from the workforce that makes up Gesplan.

Manuel Miranda emphasized that “over more than 30 years of serving the archipelago, Gesplan has become an invaluable partner not only for the government and its institutions but also for councils and municipalities, enhancing the efficiency of public administration while prioritising the needs and realities of society.”

Miguel Ángel Pérez pointed out that Gesplan is a public enterprise established in 1991 and currently operates as a resource for the Government of the Canary Islands, the seven councils, and 78 municipalities within the region.

“In the previous year, we recorded a turnover exceeding 80 million euros, which averages out to approximately 350 projects annually, supported by a workforce of over 2,000 individuals with diverse professional backgrounds,” he remarked.

Over 1,500 Suppliers

He also noted that of the total revenue, more than 22 million euros were invested into the local business community, as Gesplan collaborates with over 1,500 suppliers.

The CEO stressed the commitment to promoting internationalisation in this new phase of the company.

“We have significant experience in our geographical vicinity, such as the Azores, Madeira, Cape Verde, and Western Africa, but we recognise the importance of continuing on this path and forging new routes, primarily to empower small and medium-sized enterprises from our islands to participate in international tenders,” he stated.

In line with this, he provided an example where, during the last year, the public entity, in conjunction with other firms, submitted 25 expressions of interest and successfully secured four international contracts.

Moreover, it is notable that there are currently eight additional proposals under consideration, as mentioned in a communiqué from the Ministry.

During a discussion with journalist Mayer Trujillo, who facilitated the event at the CajaCanarias Foundation, the CEO elaborated on some elements of the ‘Strategic Framework Path 31’, a document that for the first time has undergone a participatory process involving the company’s employees, “an essential element for determining the guiding principles that will shape the future of this public entity.”

The document is organised around five strategic pillars aimed at addressing contemporary needs, such as modernisation and digital transformation, international expansion, talent management and skill development, efficient communication, and the establishment of a sustainable operational model.

Sustainable Development Goals

Furthermore, this document aligns with the strategic plan of the Canarian government and the sustainable development objectives.

In this regard, as of November 2023, a series of measures at both functional and organisational levels have been implemented, aimed at enhancing the internal processes of the entity to provide more effective and efficient services, both for internal stakeholders and external clients, presenting innovative proposals with high added value concerning territorial and environmental policy to public administrations at all levels.

‘Path 31’ aims to serve as the foundational document from which to engage in a continuous, in-depth dialogue regarding the current operations of the organisation, its value in the immediate future for the Canary Islands, and particularly, its pivotal role as a key player in territorial and environmental policy.

The new corporate visual identity of Gesplan draws inspiration from the natural and scenic wealth of the Canarian archipelago, striking a balance between nature and sustainable development across the islands.

Utilising a colour palette framed in earthy hues, featuring the green moss of the western islands and the greyish tones of volcanic ash from the eastern islands, these colours represent the stunning landscape of the region.
