The municipality of La Orotava is progressing towards its objective of achieving a Local Police force of 60 officers. The ceremonial swearing-in of ten new officers took place in the majestic town hall of Villero, marking their official integration into the force.

The mayor, Francisco Linares, representing the Municipal Corporation, welcomed and congratulated the newly appointed officers, which include four women and six men, who will continue their training until July at the Canarian Academy of Security.

Francisco Linares acknowledged the “dedicated and outstanding work of the local police.” In this context, he expressed gratitude for their “remarkable efforts carried out daily, 365 days a year, and 24 hours a day, to ensure the safety of the municipality, its residents, and visitors.” The mayor emphasised that “security is a priority for the municipal corporation,” hence the importance of both technical support and infrastructure. He further asserted that “the town is indeed a safe municipality today.”

During his address, Linares also highlighted a significant milestone for the Local Police of La Orotava, noting that this marks the first time four women were appointed in a single recruitment process, especially meaningful considering there are only three women among the current staff of forty officers.

Moreover, the Orotavense councilor announced that the process to recruit an additional ten officers will commence “shortly.” The aim of the City Council is to achieve a full complement of sixty positions in the coming years.

As part of the commitments made by the Municipal Corporation, there is a continued focus on providing human resources, along with further investments to enhance equipment, vehicles, materials, and services to bolster the effectiveness and efficiency of the Local Police’s operations.

The inauguration ceremony, attended by family and friends of the new officers, also featured the presence of Mayor Francisco Linares, Security Councillor Narciso Pérez, Local Police Sub-Inspector Ignacio Sánchez, Councillor responsible for Human Resources and Treasury Felipe David Benítez, and Municipal Secretary Adela Díaz.
