Elizabeth Ledesma Laker (Arona, 1998) is filled with excitement for the fantasy she will showcase on February 26 at the fairgrounds: connection. This design by Alexis Santana represents McDonald’s and the day-opinion of Tenerife, which she describes as “distinct and remarkably beautiful.” If she triumphs, she is convinced that tears of joy will flow, not just from her but also from everyone dear to her.

-How did the opportunity to become a candidate for the Queen of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife arise?

“Alexis Santana reached out to me, having known me through beauty and social media. He asked if I would like to be her candidate, and with all the excitement in the world, I gladly accepted.”

-As you mentioned, you have participated in beauty competitions. Would you like to pursue modelling or is this experience merely a brief chapter in your life?

“I love performing on stage all the time [laughs]. I have a passion for modelling and dancing. If given the chance, I would love to pursue it as a career.”

-What are the days leading up to the gala like?

“I feel immense joy. We are always on the move: there are long hours of work, but we are all thoroughly happy. There is fantastic energy within the team, and we balance between laughter, nerves, and excitement. It’s an intense experience, but I thoroughly enjoy it.”

-How is the camaraderie among the candidates?

“We have formed a wonderful group. I’m very happy as all the other candidates are amazing companions. Everyone is there to support one another, whether someone needs assistance or has questions. We are even discussing going out to celebrate Carnival on the streets.”

-What does Carnival mean to you? What do you enjoy most about the festivities?

“I cherish being part of the street carnival because, ultimately, that’s where I find the most joy: being with family, friends, and it’s also free [laughs]. However, I also enjoy the adult queen’s gala. I have been watching it for years.”

-Without revealing any surprises, what can you tell us about the fantasy you will present at the gala?

“It’s a fantasy that fills me with pride. I believe it represents both my designer and me perfectly. It’s a unique and exceptionally beautiful design. I’m pleased with all the effort that’s gone into it.”

-What is the most challenging aspect and what excites you the most about this journey culminating on the 26th at the fairgrounds?

“The most challenging part is the physical preparation. It’s a heavy fantasy that requires constant training to ensure everything goes smoothly on stage. What excites me the most is the pride I feel in wearing that fantasy.”

-What is it like working with Alexis Santana and his team?

“It’s a blend of madness and chaos [laughs], but in a beautifully organised way. The carnival should not be overly constrained; we are very adaptable, always open to making changes… and everything is progressing very well.”

-If named Carnival Queen, to whom would you dedicate the title?

“To my designer and sponsors, definitely. And also to the people I hold dear: my mother, who is an essential pillar in my life, is always there for me, along with the rest of my family and friends. If I were to win, I’m sure there will be tears of joy from all of us, as we are experiencing this journey with great intensity.”
