The City of San Cristóbal de The lagoon has announced the closure of the restrooms at both low and high tide at the Hidalgo due to the high tide. As a precautionary measure, a red flag has been raised at both access points to mitigate risks on the coast.
This closure coincides with the declaration of a Prealert for coastal phenomena in the archipelago, issued by the Canary Islands government via the General Emergency Department.
The measure took effect at 00:00 on Saturday, February 15, implemented in accordance with the specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands regarding adverse weather phenomena (PEFMA).
The Prealert impacts the northern and western coasts of El Hierro, La Palma, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote, as well as the northern coasts of La Gomera, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria.
Regarding maritime conditions, an increase in wave heights is anticipated this Sunday, with waves expected to reach 3 to 4 metres. By Monday, this will reduce to between 2 and 3 metres, alongside winds gusting up to 38 kilometres per hour.

Advice Before the Waves
Considering the Prealert situation, authorities have provided a series of recommendations for the public to minimise incidents:
- Do not approach breakwaters or areas where waves break.
- Refrain from fishing and maritime activities in areas heavily influenced by the sea.
- Avoid travelling on roads close to the coastline.
- Observe the red flag on beaches and do not swim without supervision.
- Secure boats in sheltered locations.
- If you fall into the water, move away from areas where waves break and seek assistance.
The City Council of La Laguna has urged residents to adhere to the guidelines and exercise extreme caution in coastal regions. For further assistance, it is advisable to contact 011 or emergency services via 1-1-2.
