Santa Cruz de Tenerife 16 Feb. (Europa Press) –
This Sunday, maritime rescue operations were initiated to escort a Cayuco that was spotted by a ferry near the port of Los Cristianos, Tenerife, at approximately 4:35 p.m. The total number of migrants aboard the vessel remains unknown, but it is anticipated that they will reach the shore by around 7:00 p.m.
The national agency issued a statement indicating that it was the ferry Benchijigua Express that alerted the Maritime Rescue Centre in Tenerife upon believing they had sighted a Cayuco approximately 13 miles from Los Cristianos.
Subsequently, in the area was the ferry Volcán de Teno, which diverted towards the designated location, and moments later confirmed the presence of the Cayuco, reporting that they would continue to follow it.
Meanwhile, Maritime Rescue arranged for the deployment of the Salvamar Alpheratz, which at 5:25 p.m. informed the ferry that it could resume its course to its destination, Los Cristianos, while proceeding to escort the Cayuco to the port.
