United’s Call for Justice: Holding Those Accountable for Femicide Victims

The United Formation may request from the La Laguna City Council the reinstatement of the register for female victims of gender-based violence and juvenile victims of vicarious violence.

In the view of Unidas podemos, the “femicide registers” exemplify effective practices in combating all forms of male violence, as they enable us to acknowledge and commemorate every victim of such violence while simultaneously accounting for and highlighting the victims of vicarious violence.

“As such, each woman who is killed is not merely a statistic, but a poignant reminder of the considerable work that still lies ahead. This initiative aims not only to highlight these issues but, most importantly, to raise awareness within society,” comments Idaira Afonso, councillor and co-spokesperson for Unidas podemos.

There are many organisations exemplifying these “best practices”, including the Canarian Institute of Equality. However, it should be noted that the data on the La Laguna City Council’s social media channels, particularly those related to the equality area, have not been updated since nearly the conclusion of the prior mandate.

The mayor mentions that this request has been made “on numerous occasions”, both during internal meetings and at municipal councils concerning women’s and LGBTIQA+ diversity issues.
