‘Traps’ has secured the top interpretation award at the Murgas competition of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2025. The second position went to ‘Bambones’, while ‘Ironic’ claimed third place; furthermore, the jury acknowledged ‘Mamlucos’ with a secondary award, as stated by the City Council in an announcement.
In terms of presentations, the jury gave the highest accolade to ‘Bambones’, with ‘Traps’ and ‘Mamluk’ receiving the second and third prizes respectively. The prize for the finest costume was awarded to ‘Tiralenguas’.
Approximately 7,000 attendees gathered this Friday at the Tenerife Fairgrounds for the Grand Final of the Murgas Contest during the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, featuring a total of eight critical groups.
The Councillor for Fiestas, Javier Caraballero; the Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife; the Councillor for Security, Gladis de León; the Councillor for Urban Planning, Zaida González; the Councillor for Finance, José Alberto Díaz; the Councillor for Education and Youth, Charín González, and the Councillor for Culture, Santiago Díaz, presented the awards to the victorious groups.
The final commenced with a performance by Nifú-Nifá Afilamonic, held out of competition, which led into sets by ‘La Sonora’, ‘Zeta Zetas’, ‘Ironicos’, ‘Chaladas’, ‘Guachinquiestas’, ‘Traps’, ‘Bambones’ and ‘Mamelucos’, who took the stage in that order.
The interpretation jury consisted of Andrés Fulgencio Estévez, a musician, composer, and former member of renowned Tenerife orchestras, as well as a member of the General Society of Authors of Spain (SGAE); Manoly Triviño Alonso, a teacher and director of children’s choirs in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Rocío González Romero, a music educator and percussionist.
Additionally, Marlene Meneses, a journalist, announcer, and presenter of Carnival events; Ivo López García, a CD Tenerife announcer and sporting event presenter; Sergio Branic, a musician, composer, artist manager and member of the Latin Grammy’s Academy; Jéssika Rojano, a comedian; and José Antonio González ‘El Flaco’, director of the Murga ‘Los Singuangos’ and the Rondalla ‘Peña on Monday’, were also part of the jury.
This jury was comprised of experts in cinema and costume design, possessing experience as both employer and dressmaker.
