The CSIF Union at Santa Cruz Local Police announced yesterday the cessation of shooting exercises that officers had been conducting for a fortnight at the Añaza Security Academy, instructed by trainers from the Autonomous Community, due to the insufficient coverage of the required officials responsible for this training. At present, there are only two shooting instructors available for a force of 321 officers, with one of them due to retire soon.
The CSIF union representative, Jesús Illada, stated that “the damage to the metal panel where bullets strike in the shooting range has prompted the health committee to call for the suspension of the activity due to the associated risks for the officers.” He further highlighted that “shooting exercises are compulsory every six months, considering the responsibility and risks involved in carrying and using firearms.”
