Both Elida Dorta and Ninf.A are fusing music and movement through the initiative of Lav Canarias. They have been engaged in a residency at La Salita, the Tenerife auditorium dedicated to creative experimentation, since last Monday. The culmination of their efforts will be presented next Thursday, 20 February, commencing at 7:30 p.m. in the same venue.
In conversation with the two artists, there is a palpable sense of deep connection and extensive perspective. One remarked: «My initial intention for this residency revolves around commitment, which I consider a way of life. It’s about discovering how much I can open up to her in our exchange, observing the energy she brings. You cannot fully appreciate that until you’re in the moment. This is a phenomenal experience; we’re really connecting with one another. Even before our collaboration began, we sensed a kind of telepathy between us, a closeness that felt very natural». Elida had previously witnessed NINF.A’s performance at the Her Festival and was captivated. «It struck me like an arrow. I felt as if she and I had created something together, something that was only conceived in my imagination. Yet, without exchanging words, they recognised that connection from afar and consequently united us in this residency».
Part of their bond is attributed to their shared artistic vision. Ninf.A explained: «Since we approach similar fields from distinct backgrounds, it facilitates our communication, both physically and vocally. With him, I feel a significant influence from dance, which has a rich academic foundation that greatly enhances my capacity, while my sonic approach drives her inspiration. We communicate easily and are developing our own unique language».
When we spoke with them, their project was still in its early stages, but progress was evident: «We have a clear understanding of the language we’re aiming to employ and the message we wish to convey. We are still refining the formula and structure. Our goal is for the audience to feel they are part of it—that it’s not merely a public-performance dynamic, but rather a shared experience that concerns us all», Ninf.A elaborated.
We seized the chance to inquire about their individual sound projects. Elida perceives this residency as a launching pad for continuing the journey he began with his performance and album M. Ninf.A shared: «I am currently undergoing a phase of reinvention, focusing on the auditory aspect, composing music, while this role as a DJ and sound designer has also surfaced. This represents a new chapter in exploring technology, delving deeper into the technical side of music».
