Santa Cruz de Tenerife 13 Feb. (Europa Press) –
The Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, via the Department of Environmental Sustainability and Public Services, has imposed a fine of 1,500 euros on a resident of the municipality for repeatedly feeding pigeons in public areas, contravening the Municipal Ordinance regarding the protection and ownership of animals, which classifies this behaviour as a serious offence.
This incident has been confirmed on several occasions by officers of the Local Police, supported by technical reports from the Public Services Department.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, states in a communication that “adhering to municipal regulations by all residents is vital to ensure health and harmony in public spaces.”
For this reason, he asserts, “we cannot permit actions that disrupt coexistence and that pose health risks within the city.”
In his remarks, the Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, highlights that “this is not an isolated penalty, but the outcome of repeated violations of the regulations, despite prior warnings.”
He believes that “unregulated feeding of animals in public spaces can result in health issues and the spread of pests, thus it is crucial to take decisive action.”
The Council reaffirms its dedication to the proper enforcement of the regulations and urges residents to observe municipal provisions concerning animal ownership and protection to ensure collective well-being and cleanliness in the public areas of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
