The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through its Environmental Sustainability and Public Services department, has levied a fine of 1,500 euros against a resident for persistently feeding pigeons on public streets, in violation of the Municipal Ordinance Regulating Animal Protection and Welfare, which categorises this behaviour as a serious infraction. This situation has been observed multiple times by Local Police officers and corroborated by technical reports from Public Services.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, states that “adherence to municipal regulations by all residents is crucial to ensure health and harmony in communal areas. Thus, we cannot endorse actions that disrupt coexistence and contribute to health hazards within the city.”
The council reiterates its dedication to the proper enforcement of regulations and urges citizens to adhere to municipal rules regarding animal ownership and welfare to uphold collective well-being and cleanliness in the public areas of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
