Santa Cruz de Tenerife 12 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The deputy president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Lope Afonso, remarked on Wednesday that the demonstration scheduled for this Sunday in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, organised by the ‘Canary Islands platform has a limit’, is not happening at a “particularly suitable time” as it coincides with a meeting that will be “significant, involving a major part of the German professional tourism sector.”

During a press conference regarding government council agreements, Afonso expressed his belief that the gathering will proceed with “complete normality,” asserting that “to properly exercise the right to assemble,” there should be no “issues” from a security standpoint.

“We acknowledge it just as we have acknowledged other types of initiatives,” he added.

Regarding the call

The social platform ‘Canary Islands has a limit’ has organised a protest action this Sunday at 11:30 am on the Ramblas de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, aimed at boycotting the Congress ‘FVW Travel Talk’ of the German tourism industry, which will take place in the capital.

The Telesforo Bravo Foundation, one of the groups involved in the platform, has alerted through social media that “mass tourism is destroying the Canary Islands” with a “completely unsustainable” total of nearly 18 million tourists last year.
