Santa Cruz de Tenerife 12 Feb. (Europa Press) –

A total of 363 individuals have been saved by maritime rescue teams aboard four vessels in recent hours in the waters surrounding the Canary Islands. Tragically, one person lost their life when one of the boats capsized approximately 22 kilometres (12 nautical miles) south of La Restinga, on the island of El Hierro, as reported by the official agency and the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre of 112 of the Canary Islands.

At around 9:53 p.m. on Tuesday, the Salvamar Adhara was dispatched after receiving an alert regarding an echo Sive 22 kilometres south of La Restinga. Upon locating the vessel, efforts to rescue commenced. Unfortunately, during the operation, the Cayuco capsized, resulting in several individuals falling into the water.

In total, 76 people were rescued, including one deceased individual, who reached La Restinga by 0:10 hours. Meanwhile, the Tenerife Salvage Coordination Centre (CCS) also deployed the Actrux Salvamar, which saved two men, who were then taken to La Restinga at 0:53 hours.

Additionally, the Helimer 204 helicopter evacuated another individual by air. Currently, following the rescue of these 79 individuals, the aforementioned helicopter continues its search for two possible missing persons. The Red Cross Mike 02 has also been involved in this emergency response.

On the other hand, at approximately 06:53 on Wednesday, the Salvamar Adhara escorted a Cayuco carrying 60 Sub-Saharan individuals to the La Restinga dock after an echo Sive detected it about 16.6 kilometres (9 nautical miles) away.

Meanwhile, the Guardamar Talía rescued a Cayuco with 74 individuals around 18:24 on Tuesday, southwest of La Restinga. During its journey to the island of Tenerife, it spotted a second boat carrying 150 Sub-Saharan individuals. All were safely landed around 06:35 at the Christian dock.
