The Official College of Industrial Technical Engineers of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Coititf) will celebrate International Women’s Day in Science on Tuesday by engaging in activities across various educational institutions on the island, including IES Canarias Cabrera Pinto de la Laguna, IES Sabino Berthelot de El Sauzal, CEIP practices annex of the lagoon, Ceo Leoncio Rodríguez de El Rosario, Ceip San Isidro de El Rosario, and IES Viera and Clavijo de la Laguna.
By participating, Coititf is joining the initiative spearheaded by the Union of Associations of Industrial Technical Engineers and Graduates in Engineering of the Industrial Branch of Spain (UATIE) to commemorate this day with gatherings under the theme Promoting scientific vocations from diversity. This initiative aims to raise awareness among educators and public organisations about the necessity of collaborating to enhance gender equity in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
Similar events to those occurring in Tenerife will take place throughout the country in locations such as Albacete, Almería, Ávila, Malaga, Madrid, Las Palmas, La Rioja, and the Region of Murcia.
The planned activity will centre on the presentation of a tailored didactic unit for the Exhibition Women Success Engineers alongside interactive panels that promote engaging and practical learning for students. This initiative aims to highlight the achievements of pioneering and contemporary women who have flourished in engineering and science, establishing role models for nurturing scientific vocations from an early age, thereby aligning with today’s societal goals of gender equality and technological advancement.
This material will not only serve to document the project’s impact but will also inspire future educational initiatives advocating for gender equality within the scientific and technological sectors.
At Coititf, we wish to underscore the significance of this day in recognising the talents of girls and women in science and engineering. It is vital to foster their interest in these fields from an early age as a crucial strategy for progressing towards a more equitable society.
This initiative is part of the ongoing dedication of both Uaitie and Coititf to promoting STEM vocations among younger generations, with a particular emphasis on inclusion and diversity.
