Santa Cruz de Tenerife 10 Feb. (Europa Press) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through its road division, has commenced the rehabilitation works of the surface on the TF-334 road in the segment situated between Realejos, San Juan de la Rambla and La Guancha.
The project involves an investment of 1.3 million euros and has been awarded to the entity Construcciones Darias, with an execution period of 8 months.
The Minister for Roads, Dámaso Arteaga, stated in a note that the works will represent a “significant progress” in enhancing the safety and comfort for users traversing a route that experiences high traffic density.
In this context, the works comprise the demolition and reconstruction of the longitudinal drainage systems across the section; demolition of existing crossing channels; installation of surveyable ditches or grilles and pipes in areas providing access to streets, homes, or plots; installation of cycling paths in all sections with a slope greater than 1.5 metres; and the replacement of horizontal signage along with the installation of vertical signals.
As a result of the works starting on Monday, one lane of the TF-334 will be impacted from kilometre 7+800 to 8+500.
These circumstances will not require full closure but will result in lane narrowing, so utmost caution is urged for drivers to remain vigilant at all times to the guidance from the road area’s personnel and the signals.
Other Improvement Initiatives
The Cabildo has recently announced a tender for a total of 38 projects aimed at enhancing safety measures and rehabilitating surfaces on the island’s roads.
These initiatives include resurfacing, drainage improvement, signage, illumination, and road protection measures.
Furthermore, the initiatives encompass stabilisation works for slopes and embankments on various roads of significant interest to the island.
The total value of the contracts exceeds 700,000 euros.
The Minister of Roads, Dámaso Arteaga, indicated that “with this collection of over 30 projects, we can address the necessary improvements across many road sections of Tenerife throughout 2025.”
He expressed, “we are discussing the resurfacing and rehabilitation of numerous sections that currently are in poor condition, along with addressing some slopes identified as high-risk in Tenerife Island at present.”
The interventions will be carried out on several roads including TF-333 towards La Montañita in Realejos; TF-320 between San Nicolás and El Castillo; TF-213; TF-342; TF-174 between La Victoria and La Matanza; TF-28 from Taco to Los Cristianos; TF-217 in the El Rincón area of La Orotava; TF-61 in Puertito de Güímar; TF-616 from Punta Prieta to El Tablo; TF-111 from Santa Cruz to La Cuesta; TF-65 from San Miguel to Los Abrigos; TF-247 between Hidalga and Candelaria; TF-258, access to the Tenerife II Penitentiary Centre in the Rosary; TF-24 also in El Rosario; TF-64 between Granadilla and El Médano; TF-638 from El Desierto to Los Blanquitos in Granadilla; TF-265 from La Laguna to Llano del Moro; TF-525 from Güímar to Arafo; TF-13 Roundabout in La Laguna; TF-113 in Tejina; TF-82 between Icod and Santiago del Teide; TF-152 between La Laguna and El Sauzal; and TF-13 on the urban junction of Tejina and La Laguna.
Concerning slope stabilisation, improvements will be made on the slopes located on the TF-13; TF-21 (Las Cañadas); TF-82 in Santiago del Teide; TF-629 in Arico; and TF-28 in the area of La Almenara.
Over 600 Kilometres
In addition to these actions, improvement works will be conducted on more than 600 kilometres of roads across the island.
This initiative, which has an investment of over 1 million euros, focuses on rehabilitating signage and enhancing visibility on roads requiring attention due to deterioration from usage and the passage of time.
These actions form part of a larger programme of road improvements across the island, including the recent investment of 30 million euros in the rehabilitation of the Southern Highway (TF-1) in the sections of Arico, Fasnia, and Güímar.
The actions will encompass night works on the following routes: TF-111 (Valle Jiménez and Valle Tabares), TF-180 (Santa Cruz-La Laguna), TF-165 (Tacoronte), TF-156 (Access to El Boquerón), TF-163 (Valle de Guerra and El Pris), TF-154 (Tegueste), TF-176 (Santa Cruz-El Rosario), TF-174 (La Matanza-La Victoria), and TF-213 (La Victoria). The works will take place between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. to minimise disruption to traffic.
Specifically, the rehabilitation project will focus on renewing essential signals such as codes, lane markings, direction arrows, and crossing markings, which currently exhibit a high level of wear.
These signals are critical for guiding and alerting drivers, particularly at night when poor visibility can increase the risk of accidents.
