Santa Cruz de Tenerife 10 Feb. (Europa Press) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife has concluded ‘Merkarte Navidad’ with over 580 pieces sold.
This exhibition, held from December 18 to January 18 at the Official College of Architects of Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro, reinforces its significance as a vital platform for fostering emerging art in the Canary Islands, states the Corporation in a press release.
The Councillor for Youth and Training, Serafín Mesa, expressed his pleasure with the strong reception of the initiative and emphasised that ‘Merkarte’ addresses two crucial aspects: to provide high-quality artworks at affordable prices and to connect young island artists with the broader art community to assist them in professionalising their careers.
Over the past two decades, more than 450 young residents of Tenerife have participated in ‘Merkarte’, establishing it as a recurring event during the Christmas season and showcasing their artwork.
This year, 40 young artists took part, comprising 30 women and 10 men, all of whom shared their talent and creativity with attendees.
Artistic residencies, which have been a feature of previous editions of ‘Merkarte’, enabled artists to create their works within the exhibition space, allowing the public to witness their creative processes in real time.
This direct interaction has enriched the experience for visitors and fostered a deeper connection with the art and its creators.
Furthermore, as part of the exhibition, a live recording of the ‘Ambrosia’ podcast was produced featuring several of the artists selected for this year’s ‘Merkarte Navidad’.
This episode remains accessible on their platforms for those interested in listening and delving deeper into the artists’ creativity and processes.
The exhibition attracted over 1,190 visitors, solidifying its influence in the island’s cultural landscape.
