Beginning tomorrow, Monday 10, the fairground will host the adult murgas competition for this year’s Carnival. The contest is organised into three phases leading up to the final and will showcase a total of 23 groups.

The murgas performing in the initial phase, set to commence at 8:30 p.m., are as follows: marchilongs, runaway, shawls, mocking, crazy devils, mamelucos, charlatanas, and diabolical. This phase will kick off with a performance by Castorcitos, a group that secured the third place in the children’s murgas competition. Following this, each of the eight participating murgas will present two themes on stage, accompanied by their introduction and farewell.

The panel of judges includes Andrés Fulgencio Estévez, a musician, composer, and former member of notable orchestras in Tenerife, as well as a representative of the General Society of Authors of Spain (SGAE); Manoly Triviño Alonso, educator and director of children’s choirs in Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Rocío González Romero, music teacher and percussionist; Marlene Meneses Mendoza, journalist, announcer, and presenter of Carnival events; Ivo López García, announcer for CD Tenerife and sports event presenter; Sergio Branic, musician, composer, artist manager, and member of the Latin Grammy Academy; Jéssika Rojano, comedian; and José Antonio González ‘El Flaco’, director of Murga Los Singuangos and Rondalla Peña on Monday. The final member of the jury will be revealed tomorrow.

The jury will also feature Patricia Hodgson González, a Fine Arts graduate and teacher with extensive experience in these occasions. She will be joined by Claudia Rebeca Skog Linares, a Fine Arts graduate, visual artist, and finalist in the Carnival poster contest 2024, alongside Laura Sánchez Vico, a professional in costumes for film and shows, possessing experience as an employer and dressmaker.

The three phases will be presented by Daniel Álvarez and Emilia González. Canarian television will broadcast live the three phases as well as the final of the Carnival 2025 Murgas contest, which is scheduled for Friday 14 at 8:30 p.m. The event will see the participation of the eight murgas that received the highest scores from the jury in the previous phases within the interpretation category.
