Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to have a cable car that will connect Las Ramblas with the Parque de las Mesas, in addition to the Tenerife Arena pavilion which can accommodate over 12,000 attendees. This extensive infrastructure is slated to be established in The Alisios, located in the southwest area, close to the North-South Interconnection Highway (TF-2).

These proposals on the agenda, alongside the new Sea accesses for the Añaza region, the future Almeyda parking facility, and the development of a large plaza between the two towers in Cabo Llanos, represent the endeavours the City Council is undertaking for their realisation.

The Councillor for Public Services and Strategic Planning, Carlos Tarife (PP), announced that “a significant push to urban development is on the horizon, as the aim is to complete the land studies by the end of the year where the infrastructure will be erected. The Tenerife Arena will be managed by Gestur, and the intention is to oversee the construction of the cable car at Teide.”

Tarife made this declaration during the presentation of his area’s budget, highlighting that a sum of 60,000 euros will be designated to initiate these projects. “We are making substantial progress to execute these initiatives, which can become a significant draw for tourism in the municipality.”

In this regard, he indicated that, “once urban planning is underway, funding will be sought for its execution. Initially, we will negotiate with the Cabildo, along with applying for European funds to advance the projects.” The investment for the cable car alone is estimated at approximately 15 million euros.

Furthermore, Tarife emphasized that the project for the Tenerife Arena will commence this year. “We need to secure 12 million euros to move forward with the tender process. The aim is to submit this in November, so I hope both the Canarian and national governments will cooperate.”

Before the year concludes, the underground parking initiative adjacent to the Almeyda barracks, estimated at around 20 million euros, will be initiated; and in May, the project for the green public space between the two towers is projected for tender, amounting to 2.5 million euros.
