Yesterday, the Carnival House was the venue for the unveiling of the Popular Festivities seal. This year’s edition of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival features Corina Mrazek as the Queen of Carnival 2024. The Chicharrera celebration thus marks, for the second time in its history, the issuance of a commemorative stamp, following the 1984 occasion when María del Pino Martín, the 1982 queen, became the first individual not part of the Royal House to be featured on a stamp.
This year’s stamp, associated with art and folklore, underscores the carnival’s status as one of the most dynamic cultural manifestations in the nation.
The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, emphasised yesterday that “it is a privilege to honour the city and all the carnival enthusiasts who make the celebration possible”, while the district mayor, Javier Caraballero, remarked that “it adds even more significance to the carnival, if that is possible.”
The Director of Filatelia de Correos, Nuria Lera, expressed, “We aspire to bring the carnival of Santa Cruz to every corner of Spain.”
