The Arico political group announced this Friday that it has submitted an official request to the Prosecutor’s Office seeking detailed insights into the current procedural status of the case relating to the works undertaken since 2016 at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in this municipality located in the south of Tenerife.
“We are approaching the Prosecutor’s Office to gather all the possible information regarding the status of the square’s file, which is currently under judicial consideration, as we believe it is crucial,” stated representatives from Arico St.
The Arico councillors emphasized the significance of this move as part of their “commitment to transparency and accountability in public administration.” “Understanding the judicial status of the file is vital for public officials to make informed and responsible choices, thereby upholding the trust of the citizens.”
Details of the works
The renovation of the Public Square in Villa de Arico was put out to tender. Subsequently, a modification to the structure was ratified, resulting in an additional €147,483 being allocated to the budget, excluding IGIC, bringing the overall tender sum to just over €2 million.
The petition to the Prosecutor’s Office also seeks to foresee and avert potential future legal disputes, directed at Arico St. Its two councillors assert that “acting with care and responsibility is crucial to safeguard the interests of the municipality and ensure that all administrative decisions are made with a complete understanding of the legal context.”
The initiative by Arico St. marks “a significant advancement towards transparency and accountability in Arico’s public administration.” “We must communicate clearly and honestly. Citizens merit seriousness in this matter,” remarked the councillors.
It is worth noting that these councillors initiated their first action upon taking office by requesting access to the square’s file to conduct a thorough analysis of a situation they regard as unacceptable. The project, which was slated to be completed in 18 months, has been overdue for eight years as of November 16.
“Arico does not deserve to be in this position, with this file existing in a judicial limbo since 2020, leaving everyone unclear about the possible repercussions,” concluded the representatives from Arico St.
