The Cabildo de Tenerife is set to initiate an official investigation into the organisers of an unauthorised gathering that took place this Friday within the protected area of La Caleta, situated in the municipality of Adeje, due to violations of regulations concerning protected natural spaces, and will impose any necessary penalties.
Insiders from the island authority confirmed to Europa Press that Cabildo staff were aware of the event’s organisation. Consequently, the Civil Guard, Canarian Police, and Local Police were promptly informed.
In this context, they reported that both the Civil Guard and the Local Police responded to the site, identifying the event organisers and beginning the appropriate proceedings for penalties as per the stipulations set out in the Citizen Security Law.
The Cabildo de Tenerife has stated that it has liaised with the Civil Guard to ensure that the proper proceedings follow the information gathered, which will lead to actions against the organisers for breaching regulations on protected natural zones, and to impose necessary sanctions.
The fines applicable in these scenarios within safeguarded environments vary depending on the severity of the infraction. Generally, they may range between €6,000 and €200. For instance, the Cabildo of Tenerife notes that for unauthorised use of trails, the penalty can escalate to €600.
ATAN’s Collective Action
The Tenerife Friends of Nature Association (ATAN) had raised concerns on Wednesday via its ‘Instagram’ account about the aforementioned unauthorised gathering. Their post included images depicting the illegal event, highlighting that “the competent authorities showed up but took no action.”
In this respect, they have questioned, “How does Rosa Dávila (president of the Cabildo de Tenerife) manage access to natural areas?” They further queried, “Will you be addressing this with cameras and without personnel, as observed in Teide? Will you impose limitations on access without considering that these individuals are tourists?”
