The TENERIFE FRIENDS OF NATURE ASSOCIATION (ATAN) has reported in recent hours the occurrence of tourists engaging in a celebration in the Protected Natural Space of La Caleta located in the municipality of Adeje.
This southern location, which has also been designated as an area of scientific significance, was the site of a joint operation in December by the General Corps of the Canarian Police and Environmental Agents of the Cabildo de Tenerife, resulting in a total of 12 infringement reports for illegal camping without the necessary authorisation.
“We would have been fined”
The images shared on his Instagram profile show dozens of people dancing around a bonfire, along with a live performance.
A number of individuals, primarily locals, have expressed their outrage on social media with remarks such as: “In the Canary Islands, it is evident that tourism takes precedence over the protection of our natural spaces”, “an example of the lack of respect that the Tenerife town hall has for the island’s protected natural areas”, or “they would have thrown us out and fined us.”
