The Social Welfare Department of the City Council of La Laguna announced yesterday that the application period has commenced for securing a spot in the Municipal Children’s Schools for the 2025-2026 academic year.
The municipality boasts seven public centres, which this year will enhance their capacity to offer 302 places for the first cycle of early childhood education. This figure positions La Laguna as one of the municipalities with the highest number of public places across the islands, as reported by the local government yesterday.
The deadline for applications will be open until 4 April and is intended for both new applicants and for the renewal of places for children already enrolled last year. The documentation required for this process is available for interested individuals at the municipal nursery schools and in the social services units relevant to the applicant’s area.
The councillor for the department, María Cruz (PSOE), explained that this public service, aimed at children aged 4 months to 3 years, “incurs no cost to users and not only seeks to facilitate family reconciliation but also aims to create support environments that enable residents to enhance their socioeconomic conditions.”
Cruz emphasised that “we are firmly committed to improving the service by incorporating rigorous quality standards, continuously updating resources, and creating welcoming and friendly environments. This is focused on ensuring the well-being and comprehensive development of children, as well as enhancing and promoting their educational growth from an early age.”
The Social Welfare Department oversees the municipal nursery schools and, for the past three years, has progressively delegated its management to the Municipal Housing and Services Society of La Laguna (Muvisa), which currently manages 85% of this local public network.
