Santa Cruz is set to introduce nearly 10,000 rotary parking spaces (regulated in blue and green zones) and 1,900 additional parking slots between 2025 and 2028. These parking areas will be expanded in several phases up to 4,100 by 2032, and potentially even more in specific pressure zones, as explained yesterday by the Mobility Councillor, Evelyn Alonso (CC). She clarified that these provisions are part of the Parking Master Plan, which received approval at the Governing Board yesterday.
The Councillor elaborated that “the regulation of parking in urban areas is necessary due to the limited ground space, thus requiring a reorganisation to accommodate more vehicles. There will be areas designated for residents (green) and short-term use (blue), with tariffs applicable from Monday to Saturday, only during the daytime and afternoon hours.”
She also dismissed the PSOE’s complaint during the recent plenary regarding the lack of 7,200 spaces indicated in the Urban Mobility Plan. She noted that “the deletion of certain spaces, either for construction or accessibility improvements, is based on prior mobility studies along with compliance with road safety regulations. It is not a matter of convenience, and whenever feasible, they will be reinstated. What is unreasonable is to reference data from the 2005 general plan when the current city bears little resemblance to what it was two decades ago.”
