The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through the Department of Sexual Equality and Emotional Diversity and the Autonomous Agency for Parties and Recreational Activities (OAFAR), has commenced registration for the Carnival Dragnaval competition, which celebrates the wonders of Africa. This event will hold its second edition on Carnival Monday, March 3, in the Plaza de la Candelaria, featuring a maximum of 12 participants. This year, the registration period will be open from today until February 24. Individuals wishing to take part must submit their registration along with the required documentation via email to [email protected].
The order of appearance on stage is determined by the order of receipt of the emails, and the prizes range from 600 euros for the winner to 200 euros for the second place, with the first finalist receiving 300 euros. The complete guidelines can be found at carnavaldetenerife.com.
According to Gladis de León, the Councillor for Sexual Equality and Emotional Diversity, “it is vital for the Santa Cruz City Council to continue promoting diversity for the second consecutive year at such an important celebration as carnival.” Meanwhile, Javier Caraballero, the Councillor for Fiestas, believes that “moving the contest to Carnival Monday is a brilliant decision to attract a larger audience.”
Carey Exuberance, the host and presenter of the event, encourages “everyone to join in this experience,” adding that “this year promises to be more dynamic, entertaining, and provocative than the inaugural edition.”
